REGULAR | ASSOCIATE | OBSERVER | CADET | JOIN OUR TEAM

There are several different levels of membership on Pleasant Plains First Aid. We offer Regular, Associate, Probationary, Observer, and Cadet. All levels of membership (who have an EMT certification) qualify for the NJ State EMT Training Fund which provides state reimbursed training. Observers can change to Probationary Member after they have completed training and are familiar with our equipment, policies, and procedures.

REGULAR MEMBER
A Regular member has a commitment of 12 hours per week to the squad in on call time. A regular member is also expected to attend all meetings and drills (60% required), which are held once each per month. A regular member is also expected to ride a "duty weekend" on a rotation basis. The duty weekend consists of riding from Saturday 6pm to Sunday 6am (12 hours), inventorying the ambulances, and cleaning the bays. This is in addition to the 12 hour obligation. Duty weekends are typically every 7 weeks, or 6-7 per year. Most Regular members go thru a 3-6 month Probabtion period prior to becoming a full Regular member with Regular member rights and benefits. This may vary due to past experience, see the squad for details.

Regular members who fulfill their obligations are granted some privileges. Regular members are eligible for a $600/year clothing allowance (with up to an additional $150 for making 5-15% of the all calls), 4 free hall rentals per year, allowed to vote in meetings, eligible to run for office, and qualify for any township offered benefits.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER
An Associate member has a commitment of 6 hours per week. Due to personal schedules, an Associate member may ride more one week and less another. People who have changing schedules or who cannot commit to a certain time frame find the Associate status very beneficial. Associate members do not have any other obligation, but only receive the training via NJ State EMT Training Fund as a benefit. They are permitted to attend meetings but Associates are not allowed to vote or run for an office.

OBSERVER MEMBER

An Observer Member is not tied to a particular schedule, though many Observers choose to ride during a convenient time with a set crew. The main objective of an Observer is to get a feel for what the first aid is all about and to get a feel for the squad. Not sure if you want to join? Start as an Observer to see if you like it before you commit.

CADET MEMBER

Not 18 but still interested in joining or finding out what first aid is all about? Becoming a Cadet is right for you then. Cadets are allowed to go thru EMT training thought they are not offical until they turn 18. This gives you time to get your skills and knowledge ready for when you turn 18. It is highly recommended to at least try out first aid on the squad if you are interested in any career in the medical field. Not only will it give you the hands-on opportunity to see if you like the field, it also gives you the chance to see be exposed to new fields and courses of study. Remember - colleges and high schools LOVE to see people active in their community Cadets are allowed to attend meetings but may not vote or run for office.
